What happens after a Traineeship?

The aim of a traineeship is to help a young person move into an apprenticeship or employment, so ideally a person will become employed or become an apprentice after completing their traineeship.

As part of work preparation training during the programme, young people are taught the skills they’ll need to find and secure employment; for example, job search techniques, CV writing and interview skills.

At the end of programme placements, each trainee will receive an exit interview with the host of the work component of their programme. Where possible, the young person should receive a real job interview where an apprenticeship or other position or has become available at their host company.

In cases where this is not feasible, a formal exit interview with the employer who provided their placement will help the young person to practise and prepare for future interview opportunities.

In either case, trainees should receive meaningful written feedback from the employer reflecting the time spent on their placement to help them improve their performance.

All those completing traineeships will also receive a job reference which can be used when applying for jobs or apprenticeships after the programme.
